1. Entries to be submitted as digital images only, preferably in jpg format.
Colour or black&white. 2. Entries to be taken of wildlife within a Somerset
hedge or clearly associated with a Somerset hedge. Digital enhancement
allowed. 3. Open to AMATEUR photographers only. 4. Each entrant may submit
up to three images only. 5. Entries must be the sole, previously unpublished
work of the photographer.
There are cash prizes for Open and Junior (U15) classes of up to £100.

Somerset
Hedge Competition - a biannual competition to select Somerset's best
hedge layers and trimmers
The
Somerset Hedge Competition aims to promote good hedge management and raise
awareness of native hedgerows within Somerset. The competition encourages
the traditional craft of hedgelaying as well as responsible hedge maintenance
through trimming.
Hedges define and shape the character of Somersets countryside adding
to the beauty and diversity of the landscape. Appropriate management is
vital to maintain the valuable resource.
Judging Criteria
Judging
assesses the whole hedge habitat (hedgebank, ditch, verge, field margin,
as well as the standard of workmanship). The following criteria:

Height,
width, species composition and any adjacent farming operations will also
be taken into consideration.
Eligibility

Any
hedge owner or hedge manager is eligible to enter. This may
include farmers, landowners, schools, colleges, parish councils, community
groups or others.

Entries
can be found by landowners, tenants or contractors |
|
|
Minimum
length of hedge is 50 metres (165ft) for all classes |

Garden
hedges are not eligible |
|
|
One
